The answer lies in genetics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/dieta-recomendada.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5618\" style=\"width:588px;height:497px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1) APPETITE: GENETICS THAT SUGGESTS A FRACTIONAL DIET<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">After you have eaten, your body releases <strong>leptin,<\/strong> the <strong>satiety hormone.<\/strong> Later, when leptin levels drop, <strong>ghrelin,<\/strong> the <strong>hunger hormone,<\/strong> is released, signaling you to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The leptin signal must be received&nbsp;<\/strong>by neuronal cells. In people who are overweight or obese, there is usually a high level of leptin in their body, but often the neurons in their hypothalamus do not receive the signal. Some researchers theorize that people can be<strong>&nbsp;leptin resistant<\/strong>&nbsp;due to genetic variants that also make people &#039;hyperphagic&#039; or insatiable (the signal is not received in the brain, even though it is being produced).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are&nbsp;<strong>3 main genes involved in<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>satiety<\/strong>&nbsp;(regulation of food intake):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><strong>MC4R gene:<\/strong> the melanocortin 4 receptor gene plays an important role in food intake, energy balance and weight control. MC4R variants cause obesity by causing hyperphagia (uncontrolled food intake) and decreased satiety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gen<strong>\u00a0FTO<\/strong>: the Gen\u00a0<em>FTO<\/em>\u00a0acts as a <a href=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/en\/blog\/genetic-curiosities\/arn-types\/\">RNA<\/a> demethylase. This means that the protein encoded by the gene\u00a0<em>FTO\u00a0<\/em><strong>it acts to regulate the gene expression of other genes.<\/strong>\u00a0Variants in the gene\u00a0<em>FTO<\/em>\u00a0express more\u00a0<em>FTO<\/em>, possibly altering the\u00a0<strong>Ghrelin mRNA<\/strong>\u00a0and causing higher levels of ghrelin (<strong>&quot;Hunger hormone&quot;<\/strong>). Furthermore, the gene\u00a0<em>FTO<\/em>\u00a0<strong>interacts with leptin and increases resistance to leptin.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><strong>BDNF gene:<\/strong> is a fascinating growth hormone that performs many functions in our brain. It is important in obesity as it is related to how your brain controls your appetite. <strong>Low levels of BDNF<\/strong> result in overeating: <strong>\"hyperphagic behavior\".<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2) TRIGLYCERIDE BREAKDOWN: GENETICS THAT SUGGESTS SIMPLE CARBOHYDRATES REDUCTION.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fats are generated from excess carbohydrates consumed. These fats (fatty acids) bind with another molecule (glycerol) generating triglycerides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who are overweight or obese tend to have higher than normal triglyceride levels, but just as triglycerides are generated, they are also eliminated. Genetic and environmental factors play a role in this elimination. Let's look at the genetic factor associated with triglyceride metabolism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The degradation of triglycerides takes place in a metabolic process known as&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/en\/blog\/learn-genetics\/fat-burning-lipolysis\/\">lipolysis<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in which triglycerides are broken down again into fatty acids and glycerol thanks to the&nbsp;<strong>lipases<\/strong>, releasing energy for our body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong>Lipoprotein lipase<\/strong> (LPL) is the main enzyme responsible for the breakdown of triglycerides <strong>encoded<\/strong> by the <strong>LPL<\/strong> gene <strong>and regulated<\/strong> by the <strong>APOA5<\/strong> gene. This is why genetic variants in the LPL and APOA5 gene are associated with greater or lesser efficiency of lipolysis, that is, of triglyceride degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Variants in the gene&nbsp;<strong><em>GCKR<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;gene are also associated with increased triglyceride levels due to genetic causes.
