Additionally, other factors, such as certain nutritional supplements, exercise, and sleep are also thought to play a role in biological aging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:14px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"178\" src=\"http:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/telomeros_texto.png\" alt=\"telometer \" class=\"wp-image-3398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/telomeros_texto.png 345w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/telomeros_texto-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/telomeros_texto-18x9.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Telomeres are <strong>repeated sequences<\/strong> located at the ends of chromosomes. its <strong>function<\/strong> is <strong>to protect<\/strong> the genetic material that is structured in the form of chromosomes (prevents the fusion between the extremes and the degradation of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/en\/blog\/learn-genetics\/what-is-adn\/\">DNA<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Every appearance of a new cell requires DNA replication, that is, the duplication of the genetic code. Due to how our replication machinery is designed and due to the structure that our DNA has (a linear chain with a beginning and an end), <strong>in each<\/strong> <strong>replication<\/strong> the last part of the chain is lost. Thanks to the existence of telomeres, our body avoids the loss of genetic information in each replication, losing only &quot;letters&quot; of telomeres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We could say that the loss of these \u201clittle letters\u201d is not important, since it does not contain information about the organism. But this is not entirely true. The loss of these &quot;little letters&quot; (<strong>telomere shortening<\/strong>) is reflected over the years since its disappearance is a biomarker of aging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There are scientific studies that associate genetic variants to the length of telomeres. However, the most accurate way to know the length of your telomeres is by measuring their shortening speed. This consists of measuring the number of &quot;letters&quot; of your telomeres at two different points in time, knowing the shortening speed based on the lifestyle you have led during that time. But remember!
