This can cause symptoms such as persistent sadness, loss of interest in daily activities, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>neurotransmitters<\/strong>such as serotonin, are chemical substances that transmit signals between the <strong>neurons<\/strong>. Once the transmission is completed, they are usually <strong>reabsorbed<\/strong> by the emitter cell in a process called<strong> reuptake<\/strong>. The <strong>selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors<\/strong> act by blocking this process, which prevents the neurotransmitter from being reabsorbed. As a result, <strong>the levels <\/strong>of the neurotransmitter<strong> remain active in the synaptic space for a longer time<\/strong>and contributing to the development of the <strong>improve mood<\/strong> in people with depression or related disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors include<strong> approved by the<\/strong> <strong>FDA<\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/spanish\/druginfo\/meds\/a689006-es.html\">fluoxetine<\/a> (prozac), citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro) among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In cases <strong>infrequent<\/strong>may be presented with a <strong>severe condition known as serotonin syndrome <\/strong>that occurs with excessive levels of this hormone. A <strong>excess serotonin<\/strong> in the body can cause symptoms such as tremors and diarrhea, muscle stiffness, high fever and seizures. This disorder usually arises when increasing the dose of certain drugs or starting a new drug treatment that affects serotonin levels. The most common cause is a combination of drugs. <strong>selective reuptake inhibitors <\/strong>of this neurotransmitter<strong> <\/strong>as an antidepressant<strong> together with other drugs <\/strong>as migraine medications.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Actions influencing serotonin levels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Various actions can influence serotonin levels in the body:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Activities such as exposure to <strong>sunlight<\/strong>, the <strong>regular exercise<\/strong>the techniques of<strong> relaxation<\/strong> (such as yoga), changes in routines, travel, the <strong>new projects <\/strong>and healthy leisure contribute to <strong>to increase its production<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the other hand, factors such as a diet low in tryptophan, the <strong>stress<\/strong>a fast pace of life, the lack of physical activity, the lack of<strong> hormonal imbalances<\/strong> and <strong>diabetes<\/strong> can reduce the synthesis of serotonin, they can <strong>decrease production <\/strong>of serotonin in the body, negatively impacting emotional well-being.
