It is usually linked to complications for both mother and baby and there is a known association between preeclampsia and genetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">It is manifested by the development of <b>hypertension<\/b> in women who previously had normal blood pressure or by worsening of pre-existing hypertension. Premature delivery is often recommended, although the timing depends on the severity of the condition and the stage of pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms of preeclampsia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Although the main symptom is <b>high blood pressure<\/b>, preeclampsia can be accompanied by many other symptoms such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" translation-block\">Excess <b>protein in the urine<\/b> (proteinuria).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\">Increased <b>liver enzymes<\/b> indicating liver problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\">Decreased <b>levels of platelets<\/b> in the blood (thrombocytopenia).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\">Severe <b>headaches<\/b>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Changes in vision<\/b> including temporary loss of vision, blurred vision or sensitivity to light.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><b>Difficulty in breathing<\/b>.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Pain<\/b> in the upper <b>abdomen<\/b>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\">Nausea or <b>vomiting<\/b>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\">Sudden onset of <b>edema<\/b>, especially on the face and hands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/preeclampsia_tension.webp\" alt=\"Preeclampsia and genetics\" class=\"wp-image-15848\" style=\"width:506px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/preeclampsia_tension.webp 1024w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/preeclampsia_tension-300x300.webp 300w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/preeclampsia_tension-150x150.webp 150w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/preeclampsia_tension-768x768.webp 768w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/preeclampsia_tension-12x12.webp 12w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What triggers preeclampsia?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Small parts and <b>molecules leaving the placenta<\/b>, such as compounds that inhibit or reduce the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels (anti-angiogenic factors), are thought to <b>trigger endothelial dysfunction<\/b> involving altered function of the inner lining of blood vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">The <b>endothelium<\/b> plays an <b>important<\/b> role in the regulation of <b>blood pressure and coagulation<\/b>. This is why such an alteration manifests as symptoms of maternal preeclampsia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preeclampsia and genetics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">There are genetic variants associated with preeclampsia. These variants are located in <b>genes affecting endothelial dysfunction, placental development and hypertensive diseases<\/b>. The latter implies that genetic risk factors for preeclampsia are shared with other hypertensive disorders, as well as with the risk of hypertension later in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Protein in the urine (proteinuria) is a key feature of preeclampsia caused by abnormal leakage of protein into the urine. <b>Genes such as <em>PLCE1, TNS2, ACTN4<\/em> are associated with nephrotic syndrome<\/b> (kidney disorder) characterised by high protein in the urine. In addition, <em>ACTN4<\/em> gene is known to regulate the proliferation and differentiation of cells called <b>trophoblasts<\/b> whose function is <b>vital for the embryo<\/b> as they surround it in its early stages of development and help form the placenta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">And you?
