These clots usually originate in other parts of the body and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Pulmonary embolism <b>can reduce or completely block blood flow to the lungs<\/b>, which can cause damage to lung tissue and affect the body's ability to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Fortunately, it is <b>not a very common pathology<\/b>; approximately only <b>1 in every 1,000 people<\/b> develop pulmonary embolism during their lifetime, reducing the presence of the most severe form of pulmonary embolism, which has an incidence in Spain of 28,000 cases per year.
