These events are known as <b>cell cycle<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phases of the cell cycle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">The cell cycle consists of <b>two phases<\/b>: the interphase phase and the mitotic phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interphase<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">During interphase, the <b>cell grows and performs its functions<\/b>. In this phase we find three different subphases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>G1<\/b>: Subphase in which the cell grows and prepares for <a href=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/en\/blog\/learn-genetics\/replication_transcription_translation\/\" target=\"_self\">DNA replication<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>S<\/b>: subphase in which the cell <b>replicates<\/b> its DNA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>G2<\/b>: Second phase of <b>growth<\/b> in which the cell prepares for cell division or mitosis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>M<\/b>: phase known as mitosis that gives rise to the <b>two daughter cells<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/ciclo-celular.png\" alt=\"Phases of the cell cycle\" class=\"wp-image-10860\" width=\"265\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/ciclo-celular.png 300w, https:\/\/adntro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/ciclo-celular-13x12.png 13w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phases of mitosis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">The mitotic phase also known as mitosis or cell division is the phase during which <b>the cell divides into two daughter cells identical to the original cell<\/b>. The mitotic phase consists of five main stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Prophase<\/b>: the nuclear envelope disintegrates and the <a href=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/en\/blog\/learn-genetics\/what-is-adn\/\" target=\"_self\">DNA<\/a> condenses forming <a href=\"https:\/\/adntro.com\/en\/blog\/learn-genetics\/what-is-adn\/\" target=\"_self\">chromosomes<\/a>. Chromosomes are composed of two identical copies of DNA called sister chromatids, joined by an area called the centromere. At the same time, the mitotic spindle (a complex of microtubules) begins to form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Metaphase<\/b>: the <b>chromosomes line up in the center of the cell<\/b> forming a structure known as the <b>equatorial plate<\/b>. The mitotic spindle attaches to the centromeres of the chromosomes and prepares them for the  subsequent separation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Anaphase<\/b>: the <b>sister chromatids separate<\/b> and are pulled to opposite ends of the cell. This process is driven by the microtubules of the mitotic spindle that shorten, pulling the sister chromatids to opposite poles of the cell.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Telophase<\/b>: the <b>nuclear envelope<\/b> appears around each set of chromosomes. The mitotic spindle disintegrates and the <b>cell begins to divide into two daughter cells<\/b>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" translation-block\"><b>Cytokinesis<\/b>: at this stage the cell completes its division by the <b>division of the cell cytoplasm<\/b>. This process varies between animal and plant cells. Estuvo trabajando en un proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n sobre la asimetr\u00eda izquierda-derecha en Newcastle, siendo premiada en la Conferencia del Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Cardiovascular Trainees Meeting como el mejor p\u00f3ster (2018). Complet\u00f3 un m\u00e1ster en Biolog\u00eda Computacional en la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid. All\u00ed estudi\u00f3 las redes de interacci\u00f3n metab\u00f3lica en el microbioma de pacientes con Enfermedad de Chron y Colitis Ulcerosa en el centro de investigaci\u00f3n CBGP, centro de Excelencia Severo Ochoa (2020).
